Athlone Community Radio had an official launch of the documentary “80 Little years” on Thursday 9th of March at Athlone Little Theatre in St Mary’s.
In 2016 Athlone Little Theatre celebrated its 80th Birthday and this inspired Athlone Community Radio’s Irena Djak Cvetkovic to make a documentary “80 Little Year”. Funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland with the Television Licence Fee this one hour documentary follows the activities of Athlone Little Theatre throughout the jubilee year documenting a year in the life of the Theatre while also telling its story about the past 80 years.
On Thursday March 9th Athlone Community Radio Launched the documentary in The Little Theatre where the audience were given an insight into the Theatre’s 80 years through presentations from the the theatre’s volunteers and also a series of short snippets from the Documentary. A special guest on the night was Dr Ciarán Kissane from the BAI who spoke about Sound and Vision funding and how it facilitates the recording of community histories and emphasised the importance of creating historic archives. The event was also attended by Senator Gabrielle McFadden. Along with wine and cheese, special entertainment for the night was a theatrical sketch “Bon Bon Banter” by Jason Gill and Martin Kelleher, written especially for this occasion.
The programme will be broadcasted at 6pm on March 15th on Athlone Community Radio 88.4FM.
