Community Diary : September 2023

Athlone Community Radio‘s Community Diary will highlight local events and Community resources taking place throughout Athlone.

. Athlone Photography Club resumes meeting this Wednesday, September 6th at 7.30pm at the Abbey Road Artists Studio. The club will commence a bust schedule of talks, walks, and various shoots, guaranteed to attract new members as the club celebrates its 10th anniversary. . Athlone Film Club‘s new season gets underway on Tuesday September 12th, with a showing of the Moroccan drama The Blue Caftan in the Dean Crowe Theatre. It will be the first Athlone Film Club screening since 2020. Doors open at 7.30pm, and the film starts at 8pm.

. A Piano Recital will be given by Daren Lane in St. Mary’s Church Athlone on Friday September 15th, at 7.30pm. The recital will feature the works of Mozart, Bach and Beethoven amongst others. Donations in aid of St. Vincent De Paul are appreciated.

. The Annual General Meeting of the Athlone Little Theatre will take place on Thursday, September 14th at 8pm in the Little Theatre, St Mary’s place. New members are most welcome.

. St Kieran’s Community Centre Active Age Group meets each Wednesday morning from 10am to 12pm. New members are always welcome.

. Athlone Midlands Samaritans need additional volunteers. No experience or qualifications are necessary, and training is provided. If you are interested, please  e-mail: athlone.branchrecruitment@samaritans.org

Athlone Toastmasters is an educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills. Meetings are held on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month at 8.15pm in the Creggan Court Hotel. Contact 086 – 0623519 for further information. New members are always welcome.
