“Hidden Disabilities – Heard Voices” Programme Presenter/Producer

Are you passionate about creating awareness and understanding of people’s lived experiences?

Do you believe that every voice deserves to be heard, especially those that are too often overlooked?

We are looking for a compassionate and thoughtful volunteer to research, produce, and present our new “Hidden Disabilities, Heard Voices “segment.

This 15–50 minutes-long feature will shine a light on the stories of people living with less-visible
health conditions or neurodiverse experiences.

By giving a platform to these voices, you will help build empathy, reduce stigma, and foster greater inclusion in our community.

Volunteers with lived experience of hidden disabilities, as well as those who have close friends or family members living with such conditions, are especially welcome to get involved and help shape this important project.

This role is ideal for someone with an interest in advocacy, storytelling, or community engagement, and who wants to use radio as a positive platform for change.

You will be supported every step of the way by the ACR Volunteer Coordinator, Head of Programming, and the Athlone Today producer.

Our tech team will also assist you in creating recordings of professional broadcasting quality. Additionally, you will receive training manuals, on-the-job training, and/or QQI 3/QQI 4 courses if
interested and/or as needed.

Key Responsibilities

. Research and plan topics that appeal to both young people and elders

. Organise and facilitate conversations or interviews across generations

. Write and script content for a 15–50 minute programme

. Record, present, and produce the Across the Generations show with support

from the ACR team

. Collaborate with the Programming Department, Athlone Today team and IT team to create and schedule broadcasts

. Ensure that the programme reflects a balance of perspectives, warmth, and inclusivity

Desired Skills

While full training on the technical aspects of broadcasting will be provided, the following qualities would be beneficial:

. Empathy, respect, and sensitivity when dealing with personal stories

. Strong listening and communication skills, or a desire to develop them

. Enthusiasm for advocacy and creating positive social change

. Ability to build trust and connections with interviewees

. Good organisational and time management skills

. Ability to follow broadcasting rules

. Willingness to learn and work as part of a supportive team
