Meet the Team : Fionn Ó Cualáin

Today, we’re introducing another member of the Athlone Community Radio team: Fionn Ó Cualáin — presenter, interviewer, and someone who brings real curiosity and energy to every project he works on. Here’s a closer look at his journey, his work, and the little things that make him who he is.

Biography

Fionn’s experience in radio began at Flirt FM, where he volunteered for about a year before joining ACR. While there, he hosted a music show called Take It Or Leave It, featuring pre-recorded interviews with bands from Galway and beyond — including SYGH, Martina and The Moons, All Thumbs and Stop Throwing Lemons.
He joined Athlone Community Radio in September 2025 as part of his third-year journalism work placement. Having already enjoyed the community radio environment at Flirt FM, he felt ACR would be a natural fit — and so far, he says he’s been enjoying it greatly.

Work at the Station

Fionn presents Athlone Today every Tuesday and also works on the Community Directory.

He’s involved in several projects, including the Community Directory, Athlone Today and Scéal na nGael.

His day-to-day work varies, but usually includes organising interviews for Athlone Today and the Directory, editing, sending emails — “all sorts really.”

Achievements

When asked about his biggest achievement so far, Fionn says he’s unsure at this time.

But one thing he’s already especially proud of is doing live interviews for Athlone Today. He loves interviewing in general, and talking to people from different walks of life brings him a lot of joy.

He hasn’t received any awards or recognitions yet — “Not yet!” as he puts it.
