Meet the Team: Robbie Mulvey 

Robbie is Athlone Community Radio’s Director.

For more than 17 years, Robbie Mulvey has been a cornerstone of Athlone Community Radio. With a Fetac Level 5 qualification in radio technology  and early experience at Rosfm in 2007, Robbie joined Athlone Community Radio in 2008, and he has been shaping community broadcasting ever since. What started as a work placement quickly turned into a lifelong passion.

Work at the Station

Robbie wears many hats at the station as Editor, Producer, and Presenter of The Sports Hub Show. His daily responsibilities include:

  • Researching and organizing interviews 
  • Recording and editing interviews 
  • Coordinating guests for the show

Robbie’s shows and projects include:

  • The Sports Hub Show
  • Special one-hour projects on Athlone Town FC: The Italian Connection and 1924: A Year to Remember

Achievements / Highlights

  • Winner of two Craol Awards for Best Community Radio Sports Show (2011 & 2025) 
  • Successfully produced special features on local sports and community projects
  • Proud to be part of the first Tri Athlone broadcast, celebrating local achievements

About Robbie

How did you first get involved in community radio?
I was at Rosfm on work experience, heard about an interview for the station, and the rest is history.

What does a typical day at the station look like?
Looking through club websites and Facebook pages to see what’s going on, reading local papers , calling clubs to organize interviews, writing questions , recording and editing interviews, and putting the show together.

Favourite radio moment?
I did an interview with former Irish International legend Ronnie Whelan , but the recording failed, so I had to redo it with the same questions — a nerve-wracking but memorable moment!

Warbly Jets Alive or Foo Fighters’ Learn to Fly 

Hidden skill no one knows about?
I can’t do maths , but I can recall scorelines, scorers, venues, and match settings from games 36 years ago .

The ability to make people do what I tell them to

How has being part of the station changed how you see your community? The time, passion and energy volunteers put into their clubs
