Word of the Week – As Gaeilge Presenter

Are you enthusiastic about the Irish language and keen to share it with others in a fun and accessible way? Do you enjoy teaching simple words and phrases that people can use in everyday life?

We are looking for a friendly and engaging volunteer to research, produce, and present our new “Word of the Week – As Gaeilge” segment!

This short, 2–5 minutes-long feature will focus on introducing a simple Irish word or phrase each week, explaining its meaning, and showing how it can be used in everyday conversation.

With your help, our listeners will learn step by step and gain the confidence to bring more Irish into their daily lives.

This role is perfect for fluent Irish speakers, teachers, or learners who want to share
their passion for the language in a creative and supportive broadcasting environment.

You will be supported every step of the way by the ACR Volunteer Coordinator, Head
of Programming, and the Athlone Today producer. Our tech team will also assist you in creating recordings of professional broadcasting quality. Additionally, you will receive training manuals, on-the-job training, and/or QQI 3/QQI 4 courses if desired and/or as needed.

Key Responsibilities

. Choose and research a simple Irish word or phrase each week

. Write a short script explaining its meaning and everyday usage

. Record, present, and produce the Word of the Week – As Gaeilge segment with support from the ACR team

. Collaborate with the Programming Department, Athlone Today team and IT team to create and schedule broadcasts

. Make language learning accessible, encouraging listeners of all levels to take part

 

Desired Skills

While full training on the technical aspects of broadcasting will be provided, the following qualities would be beneficial:

. A good standard of spoken Irish, with confidence in pronunciation and explanation

. Enthusiasm for teaching and sharing knowledge in an engaging way

. Strong communication and scripting skills, or a desire to develop them

. Creativity in making language learning fun and accessible

. Ability to work independently while also collaborating with the ACR team

. Good time management and organisational skills to meet weekly/monthly deadlines
