Community Diary : September/October 2023

Athlone Community Radio‘s Community Diary will highlight local events and Community resources taking place throughout Athlone.

. This Saturday, September 30th sees the launch of ‘The Maroon Charity Run’, in aid of Pieta, it takes place at the Olive Bar Athlone, commencing at 9.30pm. The run will take place next March 9th 2024. All are welcome to attend this night of great music and craic. And if you wish wear your favourite sports jersey, any sport, please do. . Athlone Flower arranging and Garden Club will host a talk with well known herbalist Paula Sharkey in the Bounty Rugby Club Athlone on October 3rd at 8pm. New members welcome.

. Athlone Little Theatre is hosting a casting call for three short plays on Wednesday 4th October at 8pm in the theatre at St Mary’s place Athlone. Men and women of all ages are welcome to come along to the reading.

. The Midlands branch of Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind is holding an information event on Saturday, October 7th from 10am – 6pm in the foyer of the Golden Island Shopping Centre where you can find out about making a real impact in someone’s life by becoming a puppy raiser. The charity has an urgent need for puppy raisers across the country.

. St Joseph’s football club is delighted to announce that they will host a Gala Ball to celebrate their 25th anniversary. The Ball takes place at the Shamrock Lodge Hotel on Friday October 13th, Champagne reception at 7pm, Dinner at 8pm. Music and dancing with the Big Deal Band. E-mail secretary@sjfc.ie.

. St Kieran’s Community Centre Active Age Group meets each Wednesday morning from 10am to 12pm. New members are always welcome.

Athlone Toastmasters is an educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills. Meetings are held on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month at 8.15pm in the Creggan Court Hotel. Contact 086 – 0623519 for further information. New members are always welcome.
