Teens EU Debate to be repeated on Athlone Community Radio

The debate which took place at St. Mary’s Hall, Northgate Street on May 21st will be repeated live on Athlone Community Radio 88.4FM on Monday June 9th from 6.30pm to 8pm online www.athlonecommunityradio.ie and on tunein radio app.
Congratulations to the six local secondary schools and the Gateway Youth Project who worked very hard to prepare persuasive arguments for this live debate.

The event was part of Communicating Europe Initiative 2014 supported by the Department of An Taoiseach. 6 secondary schools took part and these were Athlone Community College, The Marist College, Our Lady’s Bower, St Aloysius, St Josephs Summerhill and we were delighted to have Moate Community School join us. Each of the schools had two speakers who were allowed 3 minutes speaking time.

The winners on the evening were Corrin Foley from Moate Community College and Kevin Seery from Athlone Community College.

The goal of the project was to include young people in the EU debate and to encourage them to research the issues around the EU. This debate was organised to assist young people express their thoughts and opinions about their place in Europe.
