. The Mobile Library will be in the carpark at SuperValu Monksland on Thursday September 5th from 11am – 3.30pm. They carry a great selection of books, e-books and audiobooks for all ages and library membership is free.
. Athlone Little Theatre is delighted to present Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Importance of being Earnest’, directed by Joe MacCarrick. The show runs from Friday 30th August to Friday 6th September, with shows at 8pm nightly and Sunday Matinee on September 1st at 3pm.
. Eurovision winner Charlie McGettigan will be the guest speaker at this year’s Family Mass Day for St Mary’s Parish. The popular event will be held in Our Lady Queen of Peach Church, Coosan, on Sunday September 8th at 12 noon. After the family day mass there will be light refreshments, an ice cream van, live music and sports for attendees to enjoy. The parish would like to appeal to parishioners to donate homemade buns, cakes etc for the day. These may be left into Coosan Presbytery on Saturday evening or Sunday morning.
. Bressie is set to make a stop at Glasson Lakehouse, as part of The Rising, a national fundraiser by the mental health charity ‘A lust for Life’. The singer is set to stop off in Athlone on September 10th, as he hosts a special youth mental health event from 7pm to 8.30pm.
. Midlands Photography Club will host a registration night at St Ciaran’s House, St Marys Place Athlone on Wednesday 11th September at 7.30pm. New members are welcome.
. The Knights of Columbanus is hosting a Pilgrimage Walk to Clonmacnoise in aid of Athlone Meals on Wheels. Your support is greatly appreciated for this worthy cause and sponsorship cards are available at Meals on Wheels: telephone 090-6494393. The walk commences at Clonbonny at 11am on Sunday September 15th and will be followed by Mass at 3pm which will be celebrated by the recently ordained Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise, Paul Connell.

. A GROW Mental Health Peer-Support Meeting takes place each Friday from 11am – 1pm, in Monksland Community Centre. Meetings are free and no referral is needed. For further information contact John at 086 4411358.
. Roscommon Drug & Alcohol services have set up a SMART Recovery meeting; it takes place at Vita House Outreach Centre in Monksland on Wednesdays at 1pm. Smart Recovery is a leading evidence based addiction recovery programme focusing on managing behaviors. The service is completely free and the addiction may be to anything. The focus will not be on the addiction but on your behaviors towards it.
. The Athlone and Midlands Samaritans are at present looking for volunteers to assist in their work. No experience or specific qualifications are necessary. “We will train, mentor and support you all the way”, is the message the Samaritans are sending out to the public.
