Podcasts : Béaloideas

“Béaloideas” is a 20-part series exploring the greatest stories from Irish mythology. With every episode dedicated to a different tale, you will be entertained week after week by Queen Medb, Cu Chulainn, Deirdre and the Sons of Uisneach, Lowrai Loinsigh, Finn McCool, the Children of Lir, the Salmon of Knowledge, and many other well-known favourites.

In each half hour episode, we will hear one of these magical stories read in both Irish and English by pupils from Dean Kelly NS and St Peter’s NS; historian Gearoid O’Brien will tell us the history of the story; and translator Pól O’Braoin will talk us through the process of converting these stories back into their original Irish.

A traditional song will weave its way through the narrative, while Irish narrator Jackie Gorman and English narrator Philomena Murphy tie it all together.

This series is funded by Coimisiún na Meán with the Television License Fee.

This is an Athlone Community Radio production.
