Community Diary : October 2023

Athlone Community Radio‘s Community Diary will highlight local events and Community resources taking place throughout Athlone.

. Athlone Drug Awareness Group will host a public meeting to deal with issues on-going in the town. The event will take place at 7.30pm in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel on Monday October 9th. Members of the public are welcome to attend to express any concerns they may have in relations community issues.

. The Midlands branch of Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind is holding an information event on Saturday, October 7th from 10am – 6pm in the foyer of the Golden Island Shopping Centre where you can find out about making a real impact in someone’s life by becoming a puppy raiser. The charity has an urgent need for puppy raisers across the country.

. St Joseph’s football club is delighted to announce that they will host a Gala Ball to celebrate their 25th anniversary. The Ball takes place at the Shamrock Lodge Hotel on Friday October 13th, Champagne reception at 7pm, Dinner at 8pm. Music and dancing with the Big Deal Band. E-mail secretary@sjfc.ie.

. Dun na Si Moate branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann are currently hosting a number of traditional musical instrument and Irish dancing classes, to include: concertina classes: Irish dance classes: Irish language classes etc. Those participating in music classes will require their own musical instrument. . St Kieran’s Community Centre Active Age Group meets each Wednesday morning from 10am to 12pm. New members are always welcome.

. Athlone Midlands Samaritans need additional volunteers. No experience or qualifications are necessary, and training is provided. If you are interested, please  e-mail: athlone.branchrecruitment@samaritans.org

Athlone Toastmasters is an educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills. Meetings are held on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month at 8.15pm in the Creggan Court Hotel. Contact 086 – 0623519 for further information. New members are always welcome.
