“The Italian Connection” to be broadcast on Athlone Community Radio 88.4fm

Athlone Community Radio will broadcast a one hour documentary on Saturday September 22nd from 4:30pm on 88.4fm about one of Athlone Town Football Club’s most memorable matches, when on October 22nd 1975 at St Mel’s Park the renowned AC Milan came to play Athlone Town in the 2nd Round of the UEFA Cup.

“The Italian Connection” focuses particularly on the players and the fans in the lead up to the game, from the moment the draw was made to the people behind the scenes at the club, to the players, the match itself and the return leg at the San Siro Stadium, as well as the impact which that game has had on the club in the years since.
