Community Diary : October 2022

Athlone Community Radio‘s Community Diary will highlight local events and Community resources taking place throughout Athlone. Community Diary is proudly sponsored by Athlone Credit Union.

. Castledaly Community is delighted to announce that their very successful event ’Midterm at the Manor’ returns again this year on Bank Holiday Monday, October 31st, at the beautiful venue Castledaly Manor. There are lots of different events and entertainment planned for the day including a BBQ, music, craft fair, cake sale, a raffle, kid’s entertainment and lots more. Start time is 2pm and it finishes at 4pm  .. and best of all entry is free. All welcome.

. An open evening will be held in Colaiste Chiarain on Thursday, October 27th from 6.30pm9pm. Colaiste Chiarain is committed to offering a broad and comprehensive range of subjects to all its students. This will enable them to choose the academic path that best suits their ability, individuality and ambitions.

. A special celebration Mass to honour Fr Declan’s Silver Jubliee will take place in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church on Friday, October 28th at 8pm with refreshments and music afterwards in The Bounty. This celebration, which was delayed due to covid restrictions, is also intended to wish Fr Declan well as he moves on from the parish. All are welcome to both events.

. Athlone Midlands Samaritans need additional volunteers. No experience or qualifications are necessary, and training is provided. If you are interested, please  e-mail:

The Samaritans are available on free call 116123, 24 hours a day to provide emotional support for anyone who wishes to speak to someone in confidence.

. St Mary’s Active Retirement Club has reopened for meetings on Monday afternoon’s at 3pm, in the Clonmacnoise Room at St Mary’s Presbytery Athlone. New members are welcome.

. Athlone Indoor Bowls Club meets every Tuesday & Friday nights in St Peter’s School Hall from 7pm. New members are welcome. For more information contact 086-2525593.

. Bingo will take place in St Kieran’s Community Centre each Tuesday night at 8pm. All Welcome

. MABS (the money advice and budgeting service) is a free, confidential and independent service provided by the state guiding people with problem debt for more than 25 years.
