Community Diary : December 2022

Athlone Community Radio‘s Community Diary will highlight local events and Community resources taking place throughout Athlone.

. There will be a Christmas Eve dip in the Shannon held at Hodson Bay Hotel at 2pm. Sponsorship cards are available or donate on the day. Proceeds go to The National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street. Please contact Noelle on 087 790 2965 for further information.

. Westmeath County Council is delighted to remind shoppers of the free Christmas parking in Athlone which continues up until Friday December 23rd. The move is designed to help stimulate more business for local retailers, restaurants, hotels and pubs. The plan involves all-day free parking in six town centre car parks. Motorists will still be required to pay for parking at privately owned facilities and along ‘on-street’ pay zones in the town.

.The Athlone Sub Aqua Club is delighted to once again host its “Dip with a Nip”, on St Stephens Day at 1pm at the Hodson Bay Hotel Jetty Athlone. Anyone brave enough to done their ‘Christmas swimming costume’ is welcome to come along and take the plunge in this unforgettably fun day!

.The Cushla Active Age Group meets each Wednesday morning for 10.30 am to 12.30pm in Monksland Community Centre. New member are always welcome.

The Samaritans are available on free call 116123, 24 hours a day to provide emotional support for anyone who wishes to speak to someone in confidence.

. St Mary’s Active Retirement Club has reopened for meetings on Monday afternoon’s at 3pm, in the Clonmacnoise Room at St Mary’s Presbytery Athlone. New members are welcome.

. Athlone Indoor Bowls Club meets every Tuesday & Friday nights in St Peter’s School Hall from 7pm. New members are welcome. For more information contact 086-2525593.

. Bingo will take place in St Kieran’s Community Centre each Tuesday night at 8pm. All Welcome

. MABS (the money advice and budgeting service) is a free, confidential and independent service provided by the state guiding people with problem debt for more than 25 years.
